Why have a child’s themed bedroom?
Ever wondered why a child wants to spend more time out of their bedroom than in it? I’m sure there are many different and justified reasons. In the past, homes were built on land that had big yards and places to discover. Unfortunately with the price of land and homes these days, houses are being built on much smaller lots leaving minimal yards to play in, or families move into apartments or condominiums. With that, many children are forced to stay indoors. It is very important for a child to be outdoors, playing with friends because this teaches and nurtures their social skills. However, there is also a need to nurture other skills as well. Parents and teachers alike instruct children on how to function in life, but there is a part of each child that only a child can nurture… their imagination.
Obviously, a child’s imagination is influenced by everything they see, hear, touch, read, etc. The sad part is that videos, movies, and television have become so apart of a child’s life, they have all but removed the need to use their imagination. I am not blasting the use of modern technology at all, for it does have a useful purpose in the development of a child. I am saying there is so much more. That’s why books and reading are so very important to the child. It ignites the imagination.
So, why have a child's themed bedroom? I have seen that a child who has a themed bedroom of their own, wants to spend time there because they enjoy the environment that has been created just for them. AND, it sparks that individual part in each child… their imagination. Why go sit at the kitchen table to do homework, when you can go sit in the forest under a tree house bed and feel the peace that the outdoors brings. Why go sit in the living room or den, next to the TV to play or study, when you can climb in your very own spaceship bed and soar off in to outer space as you play or read. The themed bedroom allows a child to enjoy the space they can call their own, and spend time in a world of make believe. We all need that kind of time now and then. It fills a void in each and every one us.
Is a themed bedroom just for the young?… NO! It’s for the young at heart.
